Movie Alert. Stiffs Filming Everywhere in Boston area

Reports are coming in all over the Boston area about Stiffs, a dark comedy starring Danny Aiello about the funeral home business. Aiello has been seen all over town so keep your eyes out.

Since filming began in early January, specific filming locations in Boston include Joe Tecce's Italian restaurant in the North End and Pancifico Cafe on Charles Street along the Boston Movie Mile. According to the Boston Globe, Aiello and crew even grabbed lunch at the Sevens, a Charles Street classic.

The filmmakers spent over a week filming at the Carr Funeral Home in Everett which is owned by the Rocco family. As part of the deal, co-owner Richard Rocco (and cousin of BMT founder Jeff Coveney) even received a small part in the movie. The movie is due to wrap up filming in late February 2006.

Other Boston Connections: The movie is also being made by Boston locals Frank and Joe Ciota and produced/funded by EMC founder Roger Marino (the "M" in EMC).

Stiffs is also the 1st movie to take advantage of the new Massachusetts tax credit for filmmakers. It was originally scheduled to shoot in the fall of 2005 but the filming was postponed until Jan 1, 2006 in order to reap the tax credit benefits.

Congrats to The Office's Steve Carell

Wow, what a year for Boston local Steve Carell. Hailing from the Concord, MA area, Carell's 40-Year Old Virgin was one of the biggest comedies of the year. Fresh off of that performance, The Office became one of the most watched shows on TV. It snagged Carell a Golden Globe for Best Actor for a TV comedy.
